Mexico 2026 - There's No Place Like Home
Yes there were missteps. One learns to fight through them and to carry on on the other side. But the missteps are far outnumbered by the fond memories of the trip I carry with me.
The look of astonishment on my Travel Buddy's face when he got his first look at the organized chaos which is the Guadalajara Silver Mart. The dazzling vision we were treated to when we got an unexpected preview of the Guadalajara Festival of Lights. Our morning coffee and tea in the courtyard adjacent to our room in the beautiful, venerable Hotel Morales.
The beauty and intact history of San Miguel de Allende. The way it appeared, perched on the hillside, from the rooftop deck of our guesthouse there. The graciousness and courtesy of the guesthouse owners and their new manager. The manager even going so far as to rescue my Travel Buddy when he got lost in the maze of streets in the area we stayed in. The wonderful Sunday night party and the charming people we met on that magical evening.
The blare and glare of Mexico City, a metropolis you have to approach on it's own terms. Loud, brash, it seems to say "You take me as I am because I'm worth it." It is.
I love to explore new places. I've been fortunate enough to see quite a bit of the western world. I hope to continue to explore it as time goes on. But, I, over the last 40 years, have come to love my home of Chicago. It has become a part of me, part of my identity, part of my soul. There's no place like home.
